Cantonment is technically defined as the 76 or so square miles in Escambia County, FL just north of Pensacola, FL and west of Pace, FL. The 2010 census reported about 27,000 residents in the Cantonment zip code of 32533.
An interesting historic sidenote: Cantonment is so-named because Andrew Jackson & his troops temporarily camped here in 1814. (A “cantonment” is a temporary troop camp.) Pronounced by locals as “Can-tone-ment,” this area has increasingly grown in popularity over the last 10 years in part due to increased buying power (more for your money) and in part due to its strong network of schools. Locals love that Cantonment has a rural feel while still being within a 20-minute drive to the beautiful white sand beaches and major shopping centers that greater Pensacola has to offer.
Average sold home prices in the Cantonment area over the past 6 months (220 sales) are around $170,000 and the current inventory of homes for sale is a bit below the greater Pensacola area at only 5 months of inventory. This means that buyer demand is such that, if no more homes came on the market, this area would sell out in 5 months at the current rate of sale, which is about 37 homes per month. The average list price of homes offered for sale in the Cantonment area is currently at about $220,000.
